The Art of Gift Giving

My dear friend Shacina is one of the best gift-givers I know. It's an artform, really. The thing that makes her gifts so special is the perfect thoughtfulness she puts into each gift she gives. For example, she chose this necklace for me because there are two birds - representing my two sons. (One of the birds is a red bird, and my baby has red hair!) And for the lotus flower which symbolizes the purity of heart and mind. (Necklace made by Kelcey Loomer of Sweet Mess.)

Last year she searched high and low to give me this gorgeous Huguenot cross necklace because of the significance it holds in my first novel (as yet unpublished). I nearly cried when I opened it! Now that's the sign of a good gift!
I suppose it helps that Shacina herself is a very artsy chic, but I think more than anything her thoughtfulness is a sign to me that she wants to know me, and that she loves me for who I am. At least, that's how I feel as the recipient.
The moral: Give good gifts. It's not the price tag that touches hearts, it's the sentiment.
